More than the weather, August feels like October because Google leaked information about the ninth generation of Pixel smartphones early. Naturally, cameras and AI are key components, along with new hardware and frequent software upgrades. We also received new models and sizes. But let’s not get carried away. With the Pixel 9 Pro XL , the largest of the new phones, we are kicking off the Google evaluations.
This year, Google took a risk by releasing the Pro model in small and XL versions, something Apple has been doing for some time with the Pro and Pro Max models. It also makes sense because while some people are not interested in obtaining a massive phone, it is also not an option to forgo the greatest cameras and most cutting-edge capabilities. The Pixel 9 Pro and Pixel 9 Pro XL are now available.
The screen diagonal and battery capacity are the only two dimensions that separate the Pixel 9 Pro XL from the Pixel 9 Pro.
The Pixel 9 Pro XL has a streamlined appearance and a newly noticeable camera bar that is thick, oval, and ends abruptly. It has an upgraded Super Actua display, a 6.8-inch LTPO OLED with a refresh rate of 120 Hz, 486 ppi density, and a maximum brightness of 3,000 nits.
Everything on the new Pixel 9 Pro XL is powered by the Google Tensor G4 CPU, and with 16GB of RAM on board, there shouldn’t be any problems using Gemini AI smoothly.
Many consumers immediately think of the Google Pixel’s camera department. It features three cameras on its back: a 48MP ultrawide, a 48MP 5x telephoto, and a 50MP OIS main (1x-2x), all of which are supported by Multi-zone LDAF. The Pixel 9 lacks the ability to record 8K videos, a function that is supported by the primary camera.
Additionally, the selfie camera has been upgraded to a 42MP snapper with autofocus.
An ultrasonic fingerprint scanner is a nice addition to the Pixel 9 Pro XL, replacing the unstable optical one from earlier generations. A 5,060mAh battery that allows for 45W rapid cable charging is another characteristic of this device. There’s also reverse wireless charging and fast wireless charging available.
Like the other new Pixel devices, the Pixel 9 Pro XL is compatible with Satellite SOS, which is presently limited to the US.
Finally, Android 14 is pre-installed on the Pixel 9 Pro XL, as it was released before Android 15. Software support for the phone and the remainder of the series will last for seven full years.
